El milano negro a Milvus migrans,es un ave rapaz que tiene una característica cola con forma de horquilla, sus plumas son pardo rojizas, con manchas blancas en la parte inferiors de la alas.
Es una ave de habitos alimenticios oportunistas, que no desdeña la carroña como alimento,por eso puede verse en los vertederos de basura, buscando comida. Anida en arboles y cría en lagos, rios u orillas cerca de bosques.
Es característico su vuelo de remonte con las alas en angulo y con movimientos continuos de us cola. Cuando emigra, porque solo pasa aquí la época estival, puede ir acompañado de los ratoneros.

Several of races frequently awarded separate species status, most notably lineatus and aegyptius (incorporating parasitus); intergradation indicates probably best regarded as single species, with several well marked races. Seven subspecies normally recognized.

- formosanus Nagamichi Kuroda, 1920 - Taiwan and Hainan (S China).
